Jody Swanson, B.Ed, CAIB, RIBO, LLQP
Jody holds a level 2 General & Casualty insurance license with the Alberta Insurance Council, Insurance Council of BC, SK, MB and ON. She holds a life & accident insurance license with the Alberta Insurance Council. She also holds the Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker designation and Life License Qualification Program accreditation. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Education Secondary Degree with specialization in Physical Education, English & Psychology.
My Story
I grew up in a small northern Alberta town with a great family that was very involved in service clubs, volunteering and helping out friends & family. This sense of helping others was instilled in me at a young age and became an enjoyable way of life. I attended the University of Alberta majoring in psychology and later transitioned to secondary education to become a high school teacher. Teaching gave me the opportunity to spend holidays with my family and continue helping students as they grew into young adults. In the mid 2000's the educational funding model was cut and so were my teaching hours which left me struggling as a single mom without any parental support. How could I help others when we needed help ourselves?
A fellow teacher colleague I knew from the city had purchased an insurance brokerage in my town and needed insurance brokers. We chatted about the insurance industry including licensing and possible compensation. I certainly was not into anything like sales (yuk!), but instead I looked at insurance from a helping & teaching position. I could help people learn to protect their assets & liabilities, protect their businesses and protect their families. I took the eight week course materials and studied them for the week, wrote the half day exam, passed with honours and started in insurance the following week! I quickly rose in the successful ranks of insurance simply by helping people & businesses and loving it.
I have helped people and businesses protect what they love and cherish, save them time by simplifying their insurance, and resulting in saving them money in the process. I have discovered that many people don't understand insurance or how they can make insurance work for them. I show them how to do it, or I do it for them and they can benefit from the results.
I have helped a larger client that was paying a large total premium with over five different policies. I took all of his insurance information, organized it into spread sheets and a submission summary for the insurance companies to quote.
The quotes were compiled and presented on workable spreadsheets for the client to review.
The client went with the two packaged policies and saved over 25% which equated to saving over $100,000 per year.
I've also helped young families put together a plan for their future and peace of mind for $50 a month. I work around budgets and also look at the needs of the client rather than over insuring. Clients feel relieved and pleased when a simple plan and options are available and they can see where their hard earned money is going. I love protecting assets & liabilities - let me help you!
